Tonight we went to see The Cleansing of Constance Brown by Stan’s Cafe, one of Birmingham’s most interesting theatre and performance companies. I went with no prior knowledge or expectations though I had heard from many sources it was excellent.
And it was excellent. But I can’t really explain why. Partly because I don’t have the sort of mind to process it but also because I don’t really want to. It felt like I was watching vignettes, moving paintings that may or may not have narrative connections. It was very good indeed.
Here’s a review by someone with the right sort of mind.
It runs until March 19th. Tickets are £12 and it’s worth every single penny.
In related news, I hear Stan’s Cafe are on “transitional funding” from Birmingham City Council, which I gather means they’re being “transitioned” from having funding to not having funding. Which is nice.
…
Sorry, got a bit angry there for a second.
