Disco in Boots that Roll

So for her birthday Fiona decided she’d like to go to a roller disco. They do one at the Tower Ballroom on the edge of Edgbaston Reservoir. Here’s the website for the Tower Ballroom. Oh yes.

(I think you’ll find you can build a reservoir. It’s kinda how they come about, through building. But anyway.)

The ballroom itself is your pretty standard large function room thing with a large dance floor, bar and so on on. Once a fortnight or so they run roller disco there.

It’s bloody amazing. Like a template from the 70s or 80s has been preserved and dropped into a ballroom from the 60s. And it’s full of kids from today with their sexy young people ways and their mad skills. But the vibe is open and friendly, probably because the skater nerds rule and there’s no room for bullies.

We got there around 9.30 and there were a good few people there but nothing too daunting. I was shite, of course, but eventually got the hang of it, By 11 I was getting some decent speed and only freaking out on occasion. Here’s me attempting to look cool but failing miserably due to the wheels on my feet:

After 11 it started getting a little intense as the floor filled up and the pros let loose, so even thought it was still a friendly vibe we called it a night.

Will definitely be going again though. Triffic fun.
